"There was a deeply concerning statement from Rolls-Royce this morning about 4,600 job losses in their corporate and support functions over the next two years.
I have been in touch with the company to try and get clarity of what this means for our local sites and will be visiting the Barnoldswick site again on 20th July. I have a meeting today with the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy about my concerns. This will be after an Urgent Question in the House of Commons when I'll be joining him on the front bench.
Whilst the company have said they will honour previous commitments for no compulsory redundancies of represented staff this is a deeply worrying time for local employees.
Update: "I met with the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy this morning about the proposed Rolls-Royce job losses and possible impact on Barnoldswick. Then joined him in the Chamber as he answered questions from MPs on this issue. A very concerning time for workers and I hope to be speaking directly to Rolls-Royce again later today."
