Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson has paid tribute to the Big Lottery Fund, after four Pendle-based projects were told they would receive £451,100 to support their work.
The Big Lottery Fund funds large and small projects that strengthen communities and are led by the people who live in them. It distributes over £600 million raised from the National Lottery each year.

PAC – Positive Action in the Community - £421,610
This project will work with victims of domestic abuse in Pendle who are a parent of a child under 18 years of age. It will provide specialist parenting support to help them overcome the impacts of abuse and the affect it has had on their parenting. One to one sessions will be available as well as group programmes and peer support from other parents will shared experiences. The work will help rebuild confidence in the parent and strengthen relationships with their child.
Community Wellbeing - £10,000
The funding will be used to run mindfulness and stress management sessions for local people. The project aims to improve the mental health and wellbeing of the community.
Opportunity Sports Foundation - £9,990
The organisation will deliver holiday activity clubs for children and families who have a wide range of disabilities and life limiting conditions in Lancashire. This will aim to improve access to appropriate activities and respite.
Active Lancashire Ltd - £9,500
The funding will be used to encourage children and parents to be more physically active together. The project aims to engage the children with digital wearable technology to show progress and rewards and recognition for being active as a family.
Andrew Stephenson MP said, “I am delighted the Big Lottery Fund continues to invest in Pendle. These awards will help local charities and group tackle some of the challenges we face locally.
“Having visited Positive Action in the Community and having had a group of their young people down to Westminster to discuss homelessness I know what a fantastic job they do. I was delighted to see them benefitting for such a substantial sum of money.”
Commenting on the £421,610 award to PAC James Harcourt, England Grant-Making Director at the Big Lottery Fund, said: “This project offers vital support to parents affected by domestic abuse. Through meeting other people in similar situations and taking part in specialised sessions, parents will be helped to strengthen their relationship with their children whilst regaining their confidence. It’s thanks to National Lottery funding we are able to support organisations like Positive Action in the Community, to help tackle serious issues like domestic abuse.”
