Earby Library is another step closer to being re-opened after the Conservative Cabinet at Lancashire County Council agreed to a feasibility study to provide a modern library service at the New Road Community Centre.
The former library is no longer up-to-scratch and cannot provide the service local residents need anymore. As the County Council own’s the New Road Community Centre, should the feasibility study find the building is suitable, the transition should be smooth.
Lancashire County Councillor for Pendle Rural, Jenny Purcell, said, “It’s good to see that the return of the library service is moving forwards. We pledged to re-open libraries that Labour closed during their time in control of the Council and I’m delighted that Earby will be one of the first ones to be re-opened.”
Pendle Borough Councillor for Earby, Mike Goulthorp, said, “I want to thank Jenny for her hard work in making sure that the re-opening of our library is moving forward. When Labour closed it, there was a great deal of dismay across the town. Once again it’s the Conservatives who are putting things right and restoring the service.”
Andrew Stephenson commented, "This week I met with County Councillor Jenny Purcell and Cllrs Mike Goulthorp and Ian Lyons to discuss the reopening of Earby Library. The old Library was closed by the former Labour County Council and I'm delighted the new Conservative administration at County Hall have committed to returning a library service to Earby within New Road Community Centre. Lancashire County Council Cabinet will discuss the reopening in January before the necessary work is tendered, its hoped to have the library up and running next Spring."
