Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson has welcomed news that 100 extra car parking spaces have been created at Burnley General Teaching Hospital and a further 100 are expected within weeks. This comes after the politician had heard concerns from Pendle residents and raised them with local NHS leaders.
Responding to an appeal from the MP back in January, the East Lancashire Hospital NHS Trust’s Chief Executive, Kevin McGee, confirmed that new parking spaces will be added. These were planned for in front of the Lancashire Women’s and New-born Unit as part of works to create new North West Ambulance Hub on the site.
Following further correspondence with Mr Stephenson this week Mr McGee confirmed that the new car park has now been opened and is available to patients and visitors. In addition there will be a further 100 car parking spaces on the Burnley site when the new Ophthalmology building is opened. The Trust expect this to be in October.
Mr Stephenson said, “A number of Pendle residents visiting friends and relatives in Burnley Hospital raised their difficulty finding parking with me. Having visited several times myself, I agree there’s a need for improvement.
“I am delighted to hear the Hospital have recently been able to increase parking spaces by 100, with a further 100 set to become available within weeks.”
