The MP for Pendle, Andrew Stephenson, has pushed for students in East Lancashire to take advantage of higher and degree apprenticeship vacancy listings in 2018. Over 3000 higher and degree apprenticeships have been announced across England including Manchester, Warrington, and Barnoldswick.
A range of vacancies are on offer in areas including engineering, aerospace, cyber security, nuclear science, business management, data analysis, HR, finance and media. Lancashire-based companies participating in offering higher and degree apprenticeships include major aerospace firms like Rolls Royce and BAE Systems.
Degree apprenticeships, launched by the government in 2015, are widely considered to be a direct career pathway entering many sought after professions. The apprentice combines studying for a high-quality degree with the acquisition of key vocational skills, all whilst earning a salary from day one with tuition fees covered by the employer and government.
Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson said, “I have always been a champion of apprenticeships and the benefits that they provide for students. I had spoken fervently in favour of increasing productivity through apprenticeships before I was in the government, and now as a Whip I am able to more effectively push for issues, like Apprenticeships, that are important for our young people.”
Skills Minister Anne Milton said, “higher and degree apprenticeships provide the high-level technical skills that employers need and offer young people the opportunity to earn while they learn on courses that offer a high-quality alternative career path.”
