Andrew Stephenson, MP for Pendle, is raising awareness of a free training opportunity for local teachers.
As part of the UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador Programme the Education and Engagement Service will be hosting the next residential Teachers’ Institute 21 - 23 January 2019. Teachers will experience Parliament first hand, and then return to their schools to support understanding of, and increase engagement with, Parliament. Transport, accommodation and meal costs are covered, and applications are welcome from teachers, school leaders and teacher training providers working with young people aged 5-18.
Andrew Stephenson MP said; “I’ve been delighted to welcome dozens of Pendle school visits to Parliament, meeting with pupils as they learn about our democracy. It is so important growing up that our youngest citizens understand they have a voice and that politicians should be working for them, not the other way round.
However, there are opportunities provided by Parliament for their teachers too. Often it is teachers that introduce pupils to ideas around politics. I know I would not be your MP if I had not been inspired by my teachers; one of them when on to be an MP herself!”
Applications for the UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador Programme are open until 4 November. The course will equip teachers to become experts at teaching pupils about Parliament and democracy.
