Andrew Stephenson MP was involved in a political heave-ho of different nature this week when he took part in Macmillan Cancer Support’s 32nd annual Parliamentary Tug of War.
On Tuesday 5th June Andrew joined forces with other cross-party MPs at the charity match pitting the House of Commons against the House of Lords. After a fine display of Parliamentarian brawn, adjudicated by the Tug of War Association, the Commons’ side eventually claimed victory.
Andrew Stephenson MP said: “Macmillan’s Parliamentary Tug of War asks politicians of all persuasions to pull together and put their weight behind a great cause. The money raised will mean there’ll be a Macmillan Cancer Support team behind the two million people living with cancer, supporting them every step of the way."
The real success story on the night however was that Macmillan expects to raise over £120,000 to support people affected by cancer, ensuring they don’t have to face the toughest fight of their lives alone.
The unique event, which takes place in London’s Westminster Abbey’s College Gardens, has raised over £3m since 1987. BBC Radio 2 presenter Jeremy Vine was the compere for the evening.
