Pendle MP, Andrew Stephenson and the Mayor and Mayoress of Pendle, James and Janet Starkie, have joined forces to celebrate the commitment of Asda Colne to support local charities.
In recent years the supermarket, has given tens of thousands of pounds to local projects, including helping with the refurbishment of a Colne Youth Club, the refurbishment of Trawden Community Centre and the creation of a new headquarters for the Nelson and District Armed Forces Support Group in Barrowford.
Diane Springthorpe, the Community Life Champion at Asda Colne, explained to the Mayor and Mayoress the support for local charities that is on offer and how the store could work with the Mayoress chosen charities in the year ahead.
Andrew Stephenson MP said “Diane Springthorpe does an amazing job, supporting local community groups and charities, as part of Asda’s commitment to give something back to the communities in which their stores are located. Asda already help so many local charities across Pendle, but I would like to raise even more awareness, because I know there are many small charities out there who are always looking for sources of funding.”
How can Asda help?
Some charities may not have a base location and therefore can end up spending lots of money on meeting room locations. If you are a small group and need a room, Asda Colne has one that they may be able to offer you free of charge.
Another way of helping charities is by donating some space in store for your good cause. You can chat to Asda customers to raise awareness or fundraise in store. Bag packs are a good example of how you could raise money for your charity.
Diane has a small budget with which she can provide a donation to help you raise funds – for example a raffle prize.
The Asda Foundation has grants available to local community groups. To find out more about the criteria and application forms, and to see examples of what they have funded, visit www.asdafoundation.org
