Andrew has welcomed the announcement of one of the largest ever efforts to support schoolchildren’s mental health.
The trial will see children in up to 370 schools learning mindfulness exercises, relaxation techniques and breathing exercises along with sessions with mental health experts.
The aim of the trial is to gain a deeper understanding of the types of support needed by young people, which will inform the Government’s mental health strategy. Its launch coincides with Children’s Mental Health Week (4-10 February).
Andrew said: “Last year across East Lancashire, almost 9000 people were referred to mental health support services.
“It is encouraging to see the Government taking steps to promote mental health awareness from a younger age, to ensure young people grow up healthy and happy.”
The trial will run until 2021 and is currently recruiting more primary and secondary schools.
