Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson has welcomed the award of a £1.2 million grant for domestic abuse charity Refuge to provide a 24/7 free helpline for victims of domestic abuse, saying it will help those in Pendle suffering abusive relationships.
The helpline provides confidential advice to men and women with a violent or abusive partner. It will also help victims access refuge accommodation and other specialist services. The funding will ensure the helpline is in operation until at least March 2022.
Mr Stephenson said, “Tackling domestic abuse remains a top priority as far too many men and especially women suffer in silence, some not sure where to go for help.
“I am delighted to see this funding go to Refuge’s helpline. It means Pendle residents facing domestic abuse can easily access the help they need.”
Minister for Crime, Safeguarding and Vulnerability Victoria Atkins said, “The National Domestic Violence Helpline provides a lifeline for so many victims of domestic abuse and we are committed to ensuring those in help need get the best possible service.
“Refuge’s dedication and expertise will provide vital help for victims who may feel they have nowhere else to turn.”

“Two women a week die at the hands of their partner and every year thousands of children witness and experience abuse in the home.
“No one should live in fear of violence and abuse; everyone has a right to live in safety. The National Domestic Violence Helpline can save lives and change lives.”
