The 2023 Boundary Review, conducted by the independent Boundary Commission for England, sets out plans to reorganise UK parliamentary constituencies to reflect population change. Boundary reviews should take place every eight years, but constituency boundaries have not changed since 2010 due to political opposition to previous proposed changes.
The final recommendations for new Parliamentary boundaries in East Lancashire, published in June 2023, have kept controversial proposals to carve up the Ribble Valley and Pendle constituencies.
These proposals will see the current Pendle constituency lose two Pendle Council wards (Brierfield East & Clover Hill and Brierfield West & Reedley) to the Burnley Constituency and the new Pendle Constituency take in ten wards from Ribble Valley (Chatburn, East Whalley, Read & Simonstone, Edisford & Low Moor, Littlemoor, Primrose, Sabden, Salthill, St. Mary’s, Whalley & Painter Wood and Wiswell & Barrow).
Reacting to the news Andrew Stephenson MP said: "I am disappointed that the current Pendle constituency will be split up. I will continue serving the area to the best of my abilities until the next general election when I will be standing for the new Pendle and Clitheroe constituency."
